Walter Lewis Buckle, 82, of Lebanon, a former Clarktown resident, died January 2, 2004 at Otterbein Retirement Community. He was born July 12, 1921 in New Boston, a son of the late Tallie and Margaret Burns Buckle. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Lee Buckle.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Erma Dever Buckle, whom he married July 8, 1941 at Catlettsburg, KY, one daughter, Judy (Bob) Airhart of Springboro, OH, one son, David (Linda) Buckle of Cleveland Heights, grandchildren; Robert Airhart III, Matthew Airhart, and Nicole Buckle, two sisters; Alene Buckle of Minford, and Louise Arrick of Clarktown.
Walter was a 1938 Valley High School graduate, a WWII US Army Medical Corp veteran, former owner/operator Buckle’s Market in Clarktown, a former US mail carrier and school bus driver, retiring from Valley Local Schools as Transportation and Facilities Supervisor.
Walter was a member of the Lucasville Emmanuel United Methodist Church, the William A. Baker Post of the American Legion, Lucasville Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite of Cincinnati obtaining the 32nd degree, El Hasa Shrine of Ashland, KY, Past Patron of the Lucasville Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star, Treasurer of the 1969 Lucasville Sesquicentennial Committee, a coach in Minford’s Little League and Lucasville Sernior League Baseball.
Funeral services will be conducted 10:30 am Thursday, January 8, 2004, at the Lucasville Emmanuel United Methodist Church with Pastor Harley Roston officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens where graveside military rites will be performed by the William A. Baker Post of the American Legion. Friends may call 4:30-7:30 Wednesday at the McKinley Funeral Home in Lucasville and an hour before the funeral at the church.
