John W. Scott, Jr. 79 of Huntington passed away on Thursday, November 8, at Emogene Jones Hospice House after a long illness. John was preceded in death by his parents John & Virginia Scott. John was a retired chef of CSX after 42 years of service, having served many dignitaries & the President of the United States. He was a member and Trustee of Sixteenth Street Baptist Church. He leaves to cherish his memory; daughters, Joan (Earl) Ball, Detroit, MI, Constance Butterworth, Columbus, OH, Virginia (Charles) Jones, Wannetta (Samuel) Wheeler both of Huntington, WV, Tresea (David) Graham, Chicago, IL, Brenda Jackson, Wilmington, CA, Cheryl Scott, David Scott, Andre’ Scott & Elliott Scott both of Huntington, WV, One sister, Emma Barnett, Columbus, OH, One brother David (Alice) Scott Huntington, WV, Eight grand children, six great grandchildren, A special friend Ethea M. Scott. There will be no visitation. Private services will be held for the family only. The family will receive friends at John’s home 1614 Tenth Avenue on Saturday, November 10, from 1:00-4:00PM. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to Hospice of Huntington or Sixteenth Street Baptist Church.

Mr. Spurlock and I were saddened to hear of Mr. Scott's death. He was a wonderful gentleman with such an interesting past. I know how well he was thought of in this community when I had to contact people that he had previously worked for. Every person that I talked with had nothing but good things to say about him and were willing to do anything they could if he needed their help.
