HANSEN, John

Kalamazoo

John passed away Monday evening, Aug. 2, 2010 at his home with his family at his side. He was born January 18, 1934 in Rockville Center, New York the son of the late Carl and Ingeborg (Gedde) Hansen. John served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He was employed by General Motors as a machine repairman retiring in 1993. John was a member of St. John Bosco Catholic Church, Mattawan, U.A.W., Benjamin Pritchard Camp 20, Department of Michigan, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War and the Sons of Norway Askeladden Lodge, Kalamazoo. On April 7, 1973 in Kalamazoo, John was united in marriage to Marlene Bricker who survives. Also surviving are 3 step-children, Winona M. Brewster of Vicksburg, David M. Brewster of Lawton and Robert S. (Phyllis) Brewster of Kalamazoo; 4 sons, Jerry Hansen of Paw Paw, James Hansen of Jacksonville, FL, Jay (Michelle) Hansen of Palm City, FL and Jon (Susan) Hansen of Issaquah, WA; 2 daughters, Tammy (Jeff) Price of Naples, FL and Lorry Hansen of New Zeeland; 17 grandchildren, James L., Elaina M., Andrew M. and John M. Brewster, Tyler and Brittany Emmons, Jon and Sean Haight, Josh, Jake, Nathan, Dillon, Alexander, Samuel, Jacob, Michael and Ian Hansen; 3 great grandchildren, Lucayleah P, Isabella M and Ryann M. Brewster; sister, Elizabeth Ketcham of Wantagh, New York. Service is motorcycle friendly and family will receive friends Sunday, (Aug. 8) 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the Adams Funeral Home, Paw Paw. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, 11 a.m. at St. John Bosco Church, Mattawan with Rev. Fr. Mathew Illikattil celebrant. Memorial contribution may be directed to the family.

David and family, I never got to know John that well but I was honored to get to know a little of him during the Biker bashes you held in Lawton, I was glad I did capture some of the moments with camera in hand, they were truly good times and this is what moments that seem to out shine the brightest stars in our lives, and I thank you for letting me be apart of those times.
