Sara worked with the 4-H Club for many years, receiving the Kentucky 4-H Centennial Hall of Fame Award in 2009. She considered all of her former students and 4-H members her children. She loved to sew and many of her 4-Hers learned sewing from Sara.

She was a member of Myrtle Chapel Church, where she taught the Beginners Youth Sunday School class and served as church secretary and treasurer for many years.

She selflessly cared for others and always offered support to family and friends, encouraging them to become the best that they could be. Sara was loved by many for her work and willingness to help others in the Fallsburg community. She received the WSAZ Hometown Hero award in 1999.

Sara was a Kentucky Colonel and a member of the Lawrence County Education Association.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Moore; three brothers and four sisters-in-law, David (Emma Elizabeth) Rice, Thomas (Elizabeth) Rice, James French (Laura) Rice, and Jackie Rice; and a nephew, David Eli Moore.

Survivors include a brother, Jack Rice of Fallsburg; a brother-in-law, Ralph Moore of Louisa; seven nieces, Susan Gipson, Linda Beth Ferguson, Joyce Burton, Wanda Blevins, Marsha Shannon, Debra Savage Rice, and Sara Elizabeth Penny Rice; and eight nephews, Paul Rice, Carl Rice, Richard Rice, Donald Rice, Herb Rice, Joe Rice, Randy Savage Rice, and Gregory Rice; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

To the Family of Sissie Rice. We are truly sorry Carolyn and I could not be there with all of you. It was just to long of a trip just for a few days. We also know that she is with God and has a new body. Love, Dick and Carolyn
