Arriton (Art) Lester Verbsky, 99, of Bellefontaine, went home to be with the Lord on June 11, 2013.
Art was born on February 7, 1914, in East Cleveland, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arriton B. and Lulu (Sulzer) Verbsky and his first wife, Cecelia Mae (Wilson) Verbsky. Art and Cecelia had two children who survive; Dr. Bill (Judy) Verbsky and Mrs. Linda Durieux, both of Bellefontaine.
Art married Ann Kiplinger on August 18, 1956 in Albion, OH and she survives. Also surviving are five grand children; Chuck (Sharyl) Verbsky of Mentor, OH, Mark (Dr. Babette) Verbsky of Lebanon, OH, Dr. Matt (Ellen) Verbsky of West Liberty, Beth Anne (Charles) Broschart of Hilliard, OH, Dr. Jenni Durieux (Dr. Siler Panowski) of Berkeley, CA, twelve great grand children; David Verbsky, Kathryn (Marty) Turek, Jessica Verbsky, Cheyenne (Kyle) Craft, Max, Nina, Adam, Marshall, and Emma Verbsky, Thomas, William and Ann Broschart and two great great grandchildren; Julia and Nathan Brusky.
Mr. Verbsky graduated from Mentor High School and Spencerian College in Cleveland where he was a student of John D. Rockefeller. He owned his own company as a Shell Oil Jobber from 1935 to 1982 in Painesville, OH. He was a long-time resident of both Mentor and Ashland, OH. He was an associative member of Mentor United Methodist Church and Christ United Methodist Church of Ashland He moved to Bellefontaine in 2006 and was a member of First United Methodist Church of Bellefontaine.
Art was a 79 year member and Past Master of Willoughby Masonic Lodge #302, served on the volunteer Mentor Police and Fire Departments, actively served his church on committees and as a trustee, believed in supporting community causes and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was devoted to his family.
Ann would like to thank the Logan County Health nurses for their tender loving care. Art called his nurses his angels.
Visitation will be Thursday, June 13, 2013 from 4 to 7 P.M. at Rexer-Riggin-Madden Funeral Home, De Graff with a Masonic service to follow at 7 P.M.
A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 14, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church of Bellefontaine, with Pastor Edwin Beale officiating. Friends may also call at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial is Saturday, June 15, 2013 at 11 A.M. in the Mentor Municipal Cemetery, Mentor, OH.
