Thomas Barton "Bad Boy" Pennington, 70, of Ashland, died peacefully Monday, December 18, 2017, with his loving family by his side.

He was born November 25, 1947, in Carter County, KY, a son of the late Virgil Pennington and Esther Houck Pennington Mackey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Karen Mackey Blackburn, Tamara Pennington Fraley; and a nephew, John William Blackburn.

Tom was a member of First Baptist Church of Louisa. He was a 1966 graduate of Fairview High School, was a member of Elks Lodge 350 B.P.O.E., American Legion Post 76 and the Ashland Moose Lodge. He was the owner of N & J Enterprises, Sunny Brook Cabins, Express Coal and formerly N & J Farms in Louisa.

He was a Vietnam Army veteran. He loved golfing, playing guitar, traveling with his kids and will long be remembered for his jokes and storytelling.

Those left to cherish his memory include the mother of his children, Robin Gibson Pennington of Ashland; son Jesse Pennington of Ashland; daughter Niki Pennington Grady and husband, Rick and Rick's mother, Toomie Grady all of Spring Hill, TN; stepson Caleb Copley and wife, Marina, of Bellefonte; stepdaughter Carey Miller and husband, Greg, of Columbus, OH; brother Michael Pennington of Ashland; grandchildren, Gabby, Christian and Miles Grady and Eli and Wyatt Miller; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends.

A memorial visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, December 22, 2017, at Steen Funeral Home Central Avenue Chapel.

A celebration of life will be at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, contributions should be made to Shriner's Children's Hospital or Community Hospice of Ashland.
