Not Listed - 2018

Lonnie Ray Slone, 89, of Ashland, passed away Sunday, December 31, 2017.

He was the son of the late Lonnie and Gladys Hall Slone.

He is survived by his wife, Lorraine (Adkins) Slone; daughter Jana (Rev. Tom) Hall of Wexford, PA; son Michael (Teresa) Slone of Ashland; four grandchildren, Patrick (Rebekah) Hall, Ryan Slone, Rev. Dr. Sean (Andrea) Hall, Lauren (Matt) Evans; five great-grandchildren, Abby, Emma and Leslie Hall, Jack and Caroline Evans; a brother, Donald (Gaylena) Slone; and a special sister-in-law, Betty (Adkins) Harrington.

Lonnie and Lorraine were married for 69 years. He founded Slone Refrigeration Company in 1964. A lifelong follower of Jesus Christ, he ran his business on Christian principles. He was a member of Grace Nazarene Church for 60 years.

He and Lorraine loved to spend winters in Ft. Myers for over 30 years where he was active at First Nazarene Church of Fort Myers.

In 1990, Lonnie retired to a life of service. He used his legendary ability to build and fix anything to help anyone in need. He served across the country and around the world including more than 20 Work and Witness trips through Nazarene Global Missions serving in places like Peru, Ecuador, Guatemala, Argentina, Russia, Kenya, Mexico, Alaska, Italy and more. He had a natural joy in meeting people and a child-like curiosity that led him to explore new things and places.

He encouraged his children and grandchildren to serve God and others. His legacy is his faith that enabled him to live each day with joy, energy and integrity.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. January 4, 2018, at Steen Funeral Home Central Avenue Chapel with Rev. Tom Hall and Rev. Dr. Sean Hall officiating. Entombment will follow in Rose Hill Burial Park Mausoleum.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be sent in his memory to Nazarene Missions International Memorial Fund, 17001 Prairie Star Pkwy, Lenexa, KS, 66220.

Condolences may be sent to steenfuneralhome.com.
