Not Listed - 2018

Maggie Lucille Hogsten passed to her heavenly home Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2018, at Woodland Oaks Nursing Home surrounded by her family.

Maggie was born April 1, 1928, in Ashland, to Robert and Hazel Carpenter. She was raised in Menifee County.

Maggie married Ashland Fire Chief Jim Hogsten the love of her life in 1946 until his death in 2015.

First and foremost in her life was a profound dedication to her husband, her three sons Mike, Tony and Lee and to God. Her children were her proudest accomplishments. As a mother, Maggie instilled in each of her children a strong sense of right and wrong. Her children counted her as a blessing.

Maggie was a Christian and member of Grace Church of the Nazarene, where she was Sunday School Attendance Secretary for 30 years. She worked at White Swan Laundry and was Manager of Wylie School Cafeteria. Maggie was a member of Women's Auxiliary (Firefighters) and volunteered for many years with the King's Daughters Medical Center Auxiliary.

Maggie was preceded in death by her parents, Hazel and Robert Carpenter; her husband, Jim Hogsten; her sisters, Patsy Clark and Linda Carpenter; and two brothers, Johnny and Danny Carpenter.

She leaves behind her sons, James Michael Hogsten (Paula), Anthony Hogsten (Karen) and Lee Hogsten (Rae); five grandchildren, Michael Hogsten (Tina), Ryan Hogsten (Becki), Joe Hogsten, Stephanie Hogsten and Rodney Hogsten; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. She will be missed by her sisters, Roxie Hable and Ruby Hall; her brother, Billy Carpenter; and many other family members and friends.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 5, 2018, at Steen Funeral Home Central Avenue Chapel with Rev. Richard Suman and Rev. Rodney Adkins officiating. Burial will be in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Maggie's honor may be made to Grace Church of the Nazarene Building Fund.
