Loren Elmer Gleim
IRONTON-Loren Elmer Gleim, 84, of Ironton, passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at his home. Loren was born August 17, 1938 in Scioto County to the late Elmer Eugene Gleim and Wilhelmina Staker Gleim. Loren was employed as a Pipefitter and belonged to the Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 577, retiring after 63 years. He was a lifelong member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and was instrumental in the layout and building of the church. To Loren his family always came first before coaching Wheelersburg Little League Baseball, 1962 to the mid 70’s; Wheelersburg Go-Kart Track 15 to 20 years. He had a great love for model trains, and he also taught the Local 577 Plumbers & Pipefitters Apprentice Class for several years, but family was always first. In addition to his parents, Loren was preceded in death by his sisters, Maurita Willis and Geneva Gleim. Loren is survived by his wife, Shirley Riley Gleim, whom he married September 4, 1959 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Powellsville. He is also survived by two sons, Loren Barry Gleim and Russell Alan Gleim; a daughter, Christina (Scott) May; a brother, Galen Gleim; seven grandchildren, Nikki Skidmore, Emily Gleim, J. C. Goodwin, Cassidy Martin, Austin May, Luke May and Lauren Gleim and four great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family requests Memorial Contributions be made in Loren’s name to the Wheelersburg Alumni Scholarship Fund or Green Township Alumni Scholarship Fund or St. John’s Lutheran Memorial Fund.
Services for Loren will be 1:00 pm Friday, January 27, 2023 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Powellsville with Rev. Brent Cavendish officiating. Interment will follow in St. John’s Cemetery. The family will receive friends and family 4:00-7:00 pm Thursday, January 26, 2023 at Harrison-Pyles Funeral Home in Wheelersburg and one hour, at the church, before the 1:00 pm service on Friday.
