Helen F. Carpenter, 94, of Huntington, W.Va., passed away on July 19, 2024 at the Wyngate Senior Living Community in Barboursville, W.Va. She was born in Milton, W.Va. on January 15, 1930, one of 10 children born to her parents, Milford and Maggie Davis, and the last one surviving. Her loving husband of 65 years, Earl E. Carpenter, predeceased her on July 12, 2016. She also was predeceased by her parents and by her four sisters Hazel Foster, Dorothy Washington, Pauline Brunner and Emily Good, and by her five brothers Emzie, Lloyd, Delbert, Denvil and Richard Davis.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Michael H. and Jo Ann Carpenter of Gahanna, Ohio, and her daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Sid Torlone of Huntington, W.Va.; five grandchildren, Allison (Nabeel), Rachel (Peter), Michael Jr. (Laura), Travis (Jen), Tyler (Beth) and nine great-grandchildren.
She graduated from Milton High School in 1948, the first in her family to graduate from high school. She was a talented pianist, and played for her church choir at Good Hope Baptist Church for many years. She retired from the accounting department of BASF-Wyandotte in Huntington after 36 years of dedicated service. She was a long-time member of the Lewis Memorial Baptist Church, and was known in the Pea Ridge area for her festive Christmas decorations and lifesize Nativity scene that drew observers from miles away.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, July 26, 2024 at Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, W.Va. with Dr. David Lemming of Lewis Memorial Baptist Church officiating. Entombment will be in White Chapel Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Barboursville. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Friday, July 26, at the funeral home, immediately preceding the funeral service. Helen was smart and strong, a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and an excellent business woman. She always sought and brought out the best in others.
