Lola Anne Warren Click for Condolences      Printable Version
1933 - 2026

Lola Anne WarrenLola Anne Warren of Culloden, West Virginia, passed away on January 8, 2026, just minutes into her 93rd birthday.

She was born in Weston, West Virginia, on January 8, 1933, the daughter of the late J. Harley Boram and Sue S. Boram. She graduated with high honors from Weston High School in 1950 and continued her education at Mountain State College in Parkersburg, where she was recognized as "The Secretary of Tomorrow."

On April 19, 1952, she married Walter H. "Huppy" Warren, Jr., who preceded her in death in 2006. Following their marriage, the couple moved to Charleston, where Lola worked as a legal secretary and later served on the staff of the West Virginia State Senate during legislative sessions.

In 1967, the family moved to Culloden, where Lola and her husband became owners of

Highland Insurance in Huntington.

Lola was preceded in death by her daughter and son-in-law, Marianne Warren Monk and David Monk; her brothers, Dr. William Boram and wife JoAnn, and Thomas Boram and wife Marie; her sisters, Dorothy Burkhammer and husband Frank, and Linda McColgan and husband Jerry; and her beloved niece, Bonnie Coleman.

She is survived by two sons, Walter H. Warren III and wife Sue-Beth of Wheeling, West Virginia, and Stuart P. Warren and wife Carla of Winfield, West Virginia. Also surviving are fourteen grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter, and several dear nieces and nephews. She is also survived by special friends Nancy Hunter, Marcy Stowers, and Jesse Wilburn.

Lola was an avid reader and a devoted player of bridge and Scrabble. She loved grammar, poetry, and the written word, held a deep interest in social justice, and treasured lively family gatherings filled with conversation, food, and laughter. She enjoyed sharing that she, her sister Linda, and her oldest grandson Chris Chapman were all winners of the West Virginia Golden Horseshoe.

She was a devoted member of St. Timothy's-in-the-Valley Episcopal Church in Hurricane, West Virginia, where she served faithfully in many roles over the years.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12 p.m. Wednesday, January 14, 2026 at St. Timothy’s-in-the-Valley Episcopal Church with Father Andy Bird officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Memorial Park, Milton. Friends may visit from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, January, 13, 2026 at Wallace Funeral Home, Milton and after 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Timothy's-in-the-Valley Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 424, Hurricane, WV 25526, to benefit the children's ministry.

I've known Lola ever since I was a little girl. She reminded me so much of my grandma and eventually became a second one at heart and more importantly, my friend. She was a rockstar and a total bada--. She is and will always be someone I hold close to my heart and idolize. I will treasure the time I had with her, our laughs and the wisdom she instilled. I'm sending all my love to Lola's family, especially the grandkids.

My sweet aunt Lola! I will always remember her kindness, her openness, and her love. Always welcoming, and always in good humour. And what a dedicated family member! Her presence in her kids and grandkids lives was immeasurable. She was also the closest in age to my mom of all the siblings, and the last of that generation. I will miss her so much.

My fiery, funny, talented, compassionate and loving Aunt Lola. always a joy to be around a joy to receive her loving letters in the mail and a joy to have our little chats on the phone from so far away. So many special memories of our visits, I only wish that distance hadn’t kept us from having more of them. She will be greatly missed but forever kept in my heart and my memories.
