1930-2003

Oliver Dewey Hawk, 72, of Catlettsburg, Ky., died Sunday, Sept. 21, 2003.

Mr. Hawk was born Dec. 31, 1930, in Paintsville, Ky., a son of the late Raymond Dewey and Hazel Preston Hawk.

He was a shipping crew leader of Owen, Ill., Glass Co. in Huntington, W.Va. He served in the Army military police in France, was of the Baptist faith, was a member of Catlettsburg Elks, Kenova VFW, and Boyd County Optimist Club, where he assisted with the Optimist Little League football of Boyd County. He volunteered as an assistant coach for Catlettsburg Junior and Senior High School and Boyd County Junior and Senior High School football teams. He graduated from Thomas R. Brown High School in Catlettsburg, Ky.

Surviving are two sons, Mike Hawk and his wife, Nancy, of Versailles, Ky., and Doug Hawk of Route 5, Summit, Ky.; a daughter, Brenda Lemaster and her husband, Leon, of Catlettsburg; a brother, William Hawk and his wife, Connie, of Catlettsburg; three sisters, Geneva Coldiron and her husband, Jack, of Cannonsburg, Ky., Susan Friley of Ashland and Ruth Brown and her husband, William, of Ringold, Ga.; five grandchildren, Laurie Ann Raines and her husband, David, and Michael Hawk, all of Houston, Courtney Hawk of Summit, and Misty Hawk and Billie Brooks, and her husband, Brian, all of Ashland; and five great-grandchildren, Lacey, Noah, Jonah, Dalton, and Destiny.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003, at Steen Funeral Home-Marshall Steen Chapel in Ashland by Talmadge Badgett and the Rev. Gary Arrington. Burial will be in Catlettsburg Cemetery with military rites by Kenova American Legion Post No. 93.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
