1933 - 2008

Age: 75

LaPine, Jack L.

Kalamazoo

Jack LeRoy LaPine, 75, departed this life July 27, 2008. He was born February 18, 1933 in Paw Paw to Roy and Viola (Thorpe) LaPine. He always considered Paw Paw his home but also lived in Phoenix, AZ, Oshtemo and Springhill, FL and most recently Kalamazoo.

Jack graduated from Paw Paw High School and immediately joined his father in the family business, LaPine Sheetmetal. Later, his brother Lyle joined the business and they incorporated under the name R.W. LaPine. In 1978, Jack left the company to pursue other entrepreneurial ventures including many real estate projects.

Jack was a member of the Elks and the Knights of Columbus. Throughout his life he enjoyed many sports including golf and basketball. He liked going out west hunting, to northern Michigan snowmobiling, and playing cards with his good friends.

He will truly be missed by his wife of 57 years, Marie (Agate) LaPine; his three sons: Michael (Lorie) of Paw Paw, Gary (Jan) of Mattawan, and Steven (Lisa) of Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren: Michael, Alexis, Annalyse, Cailey, Lee Joshua, Brittney and Conner; brother, Lyle (Peggy) LaPine of Kalamazoo; sister Sandra Oakleaf of Paw Paw; George and Marty Agate of Kalamazoo and Gloria Agate of Kalamazoo.

As Jack wished, cremation has taken place. A memorial mass will be held Wednesday, July 30 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Marys Catholic Church, Paw Paw. For those desiring, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan or Bethany Christian Services. Arrangements by Adams Funeral Home, Paw Paw.

To the entire LaPine family, my deepest heartfelt sympathy to you all. I got to know Jack from my days working at Mitchell's, him and his friends would give me a hard time quite a few Friday nights but I always had a fun with him. I also worked for Jack & Marie when they had the Saloon in Lawton, he was great to work for and a wonderful friend, he always took us under his wing like one of his own, Good times. I had not seen Jack in about 5 years but I will truly miss him, his humor and his advice. God's blessings on you all, Peace be with you.

Dearest Marie, Mike, Gary, Steve and families; Mom called me immediately, after she and Dad received Lories phone call Thank you, Lorie, on their behalf, for letting them know about Jack. I would be telling a lie, if I said that this did not impact me, in a very big way. Marie, you and Jack have been 'family' to Dad, Mom, Terry and I, for as long as I can remember. I am so grateful that I was able to be at Mom and Dad's when you sprang a visit on them a few years back. So many great times (the golf and card games; and just 'little visits') over the years have meant so much more than anyone knows. You cannot grow with another 'family' without feeling the same loss that we all are feeling at this moment. Dad is taking it especially hard. I always wonder why we let life 'get in the way' as we grow older?! Please know that you have all the love, prayers - - and, so many tears - - - from Hoddy, Betty, Karen and Terry (and our families). Losing Jack is going to take much time for all of us to heal. I (we) love you all. Hugs and prayers, Karen
