
Phillip Corydon Duff, 80, of Barboursville, WV, passed away January 27, 2006. Memorial services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3, 2006, at the First United Methodist Church, Barboursville, by Rev. Judy Fisher. Mr. Duff was born May 13, 1925, in Huntington, a son of the late Alphonso and Shirley McCallister Duff. Mr. Duff was a veteran of the US Marines and served during WW II. Mr. Duff was attached to the 5th Marine Division as a medical corpsman where he served on Iwo Jima. Mr. Duff was with the 28th Marine outfit that raised the flag on Mt. Suribachi. Mr. Duff was awarded the Purple Heart, Navy Commendation, and the Presidential Unit Citation. Mr. Duff was wounded in battle on Iwo Jima. After recovering, he returned to the 5th Marine Division for the occupation of Japan. Upon his return, he attended West Liberty College and graduated from West Virginia University College of Law in 1951. Mr. Duff had a law practice in Huntington. The most fulfilling aspect of his career was assisting returning veterans in acquisition of VA benefits. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Abigail Corydon Schanz, his sister, Helen Earlewine and one brother, James Duff. He is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years, Marjorie Darrah Duff; four daughters, Kathleen Duff Bradley and her husband, Tom, of University Park, MD, Rebecca Duff Close and her husband, Dick of Cincinnati, OH, Penelope Duff Wetterau and her husband, John, of Dexter, MI, and Cynthia Duff Byers and her husband, Ben of Powell, OH; three sisters, Ginevra Nicholson of Wheeling, Patricia Harris of Rock Hill, SC, and Frances Hehle of Hampton, VA; five grandchildren, Alix Bradley, Andy Bradley, Emily Close, Jane Wetterau and Mike Wetterau. Friends may call after 12:00 noon Friday at the First United Methodist Church, Barboursville. Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, is in charge of arrangements.
