Mrs. Astle was a great influence in the lives of both mine and my husband's. I probably remember more about her class than any of my other Junior High classes. She made me love learning about science.
She truly took each individual student and their grade very seriously. She brought up each student to show them their grade before it came out on their grade card. At that time, she let each of us know whether she was happy or sad about it. I always was encouraged by these times--even if I did poorly--she encouraged me.
She will be missed in this world, but good memories of her will always keep her alive in our hearts and minds. I hope that I can be as effective a teacher in my career as she was in her career.
My condolences go to Mr. Astle and her family. I will pray for your family as you grieve over your great loss.
Sincerely,
Marsha Blue Dille

Few teachers make the kind of impression that Mrs. Astle made on me. She was an excellent teacher...and truly cared about her students. I regret that I could not be there for the services. You are in my thoughts and prayers....she will truly be missed by many!

Mrs. Astle was one of the best teachers I ever had. She expected the students to work hard and accomplish goals, but she did it with compassion. She will be missed by many.

One of the most intelligent, kindest, sweetest, people who ever graced the Village of Barboursville, or the world for that matter, has been set free of the ailing body she has had to endure. Being the fine lady that she has always been, she has taken her place right up there in the front row. I was lucky enough to stop by and spend several hours with Mr. & Mrs. Astle, as I have always referred to them, and thank them! I also apologized for breaking their garage door glass out several thousand times with a basketball. It was the best basketball court in town! How they put up with their sons and their friends I'll never know! They helped make B'ville like Mayberry. It is probably the best place of all time and in the whole world to grow up. Union & Barber. Sorry I can't be there. Charlie, John, David and family, chin up, she will be missed by all.
