 James A. "Jim" Deakin, 75, of Milton, WV, formerly of Oadby, Leicestershire, England,passed away Sunday, February 25, 2007. He was born October 25, 1931, a son of the late Cyril R and Lillian E. Staines Deakin. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Jeanne Deakin Blenko. He is survived by his wife, Marie Shelton Deakin; one daughter, Debra McCallister; special granddaughter, Heather Marie McCallister; two brothers, Gerald R. Deakin of Oadby, Leicestershire, England, Dennis C. Deakin of Cheltenham, England; one sister, Kathleen Cooper of Wigston Fields, Leicestershire, England. He was a retired employee of Blenko Glass Company, served in the British Army, a veteran of the US Army, serving during the Korean Conflict, and the National Guard of the United States. He was a life member of the American Legion Post # 139, Milton, WV, and a member of the V.F.W. Post # 9796, Milton, WV. By his own wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to his granddaughter’s education fund, Heather McCallister Educational Fund, % City National Bank, 1041 Church Street, Milton, WV 25541. Jim Deakin was an exceptional person in character and love. He tirelessly helped people around and was a real role model for me in my life; he was a super fellow and I think of him often. I can't believe he is gone; he was an uncle and a father to me.

I don't know if you'll remember me or not. My name is Denzil Clagg. I worked with Jim in the 1960's at Blenko's. He was my boss. He helped me a great deal with being where I am today in the glass industry. I am now in North Carolina and still working in glass. He help guide me in my work as a maintenence worker. I will always remember him as a friend as well as a former boss. He will be missed.
