Jack Eldon RooperJack Eldon Rooper, 73, of Barboursville, husband of Lorene Cooper Rooper, passed into God’s care on Wednesday, August 1, 2007, from his residence. Visitation will be at Wallace Funeral Home on Friday, August 3, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Wallace Funeral Home, with Dr. David Lemming officiating and a eulogy by Richard Farley. Singers will be Rev. and Mrs. John Horn and Mike Nelson. David Blevins will be honorary pallbearer. Burial will be in Forest Memorial Park in Milton. He was born, June 28, 1934, at Teays, WV, a son of Everett and Reba Meadows Rooper. He was preceded in death by his father and also a brother-in-law, Gary Hill. Additional survivors are two daughters, Rebecca (Gary) Ferguson and Robin (Jerry)Ramey and three sons, David (Robyn) Rooper, Jack (Margaret) Rooper and Victor (Lori) Rooper; eight grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his mother, and his three sisters, Ramona (Clifford) Erwin, Gaye (John Dale) Samples, and Janet Hill. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict and was also in the Navy Seabees. He retired from Bell Atlantic Telephone Company with 39 years service. He was a minister and pastored churches in Milton, WV, Ashland, KY, and Kenova, WV. He also had a radio ministry for over 30 years. He was at WEMM for 23 years, WPAY for several years and other local stations. He was also a Kentucky Colonel. Military graveside rites will be conducted by Veterans Honor Guard, American Legion Post #16, Huntington, WV. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.timeformemory.com/wallace.

I count it a privilege to have known Jack. He was always such an interesting speaker. He knew the Bible so well, he seemed to be talking about people he actually knew. I also enjoyed reading his column. He could definitely paint good word pictures. Wallace was very grateful for Jack's help in preparing for his "knot test" with MSC and for the broadcast tapes you sent while he was at sea. If you need help adjusting, GriefShare is a good program (speaking from experience). Love you Lorene and family (from Charlotte).
