Jesse Lee Davis, Jr. Click for Condolences      Printable Version
1923 - 2008

Jesse Lee Davis, Jr.Jesse Lee Davis, Jr., 84 of Salt Rock, WV., was joyfully welcomed in heaven on March 4, 2008. He was born in Salt Rock, WV., on April 8, 1923, a son of the late Lee Davis and Avie Johnson Davis. Preceding him in death were one sister, Geraldine and five brothers, Clark, Emmett, Eugene, Paul, and Alex Davis. He grieved over the loss of his precious granddaughter, Kristen Kuhn, whom we lost December 10, 2007. He is survived by his wonderful wife of 58 years, Rita McCallister Davis; one sister, Bernice Johnson of Salt Rock; two daughters and their families, Debby and Steve Frye of Salt Rock, and Paula and Mark Sturgeon of Fraziers Bottom, WV; three granddaughters, Rachel Frye Stone and her husband, Heath and their daughter, Hannah of Huntington, WV, Sarah Frye and her daughter, Molly of Salt Rock, and Emily Kuhn of Fraziers Bottom. He will be missed by his special nieces and nephews and their families who loved him very much. He loved his Saviour and was a dedicated member of the Roach Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon superintendent, treasurer and teacher. He thanked God every day for his family and this beautiful earth we live on. He was proud to have served his country in the Army during WW II and cherished the freedom of our nation. He worked all of his life as a heavy equipment operator. We were taught in a gentle way to always respect others and love God, and to accept Jesus into our hearts. Dads life was terribly altered by Alzheimers disease in the last few years, but he always expressed love for his family , and often his wonderful humor shone through. Friends and family are welcome to the visitation on Thursday, March 6, 2008, from 6-8 pm at the Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville. Funeral services will be held at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel at 1:00 pm Friday, March 7, 2008 by Rev. Richard Black and Rev. James Jobe. Burial will be in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville, WV. Dad was fortunate to be in the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House during his final days. We are so thankful for Dr. David Daniels and Dr. Jane Kurucz for helping us through this difficult time. We can never fully express our gratitude to all of the caring and supportive staff members who not only cared for dad, but also met the needs of our family. In lieu of flowers, we ask that contributions be made to Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House, 3100 Staunton Street, Huntington, Wv 25702. Online condolonces may be sent to the family at www.timeformemory.com/wallace. Job 14:14 If a man die shall he live again? All the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come.

The world was a better place for having him in it for a too brief time. What a kind and gentle man he was, and what a good neighbor. See you later, Davy Crockett.

I was so sorry to hear of your loss. Nancy has kept me up to date about happenings and I just wanted to share my thoughts for the wonderful time that I had as a little girl. I remember Mr. Davis as the young father he was and am happy to say I can still see the young man in him in this photo. My thoughts are with you during this time.

My dear sweet pappaw I will miss every day. I have so many memories that I will treasure all my life. We are so lucky to have had him as long as we did and I only wish my Hannah would have been able to know what a wonderful and loving man he was. He was a amazing father to my mom Jeanie and "little" PJ, and a storybook pappaw for his grandkids, and of course the loving husband to his #1 sweetheart and doll, Rita his wife of 58yrs. Many people are not blessed enough to have caring grandparents at all, God gave me 4 of the most wonderful people to love me as I grew into a woman of 33 with her own husband and daughter. I am lucky beyond words. Pappaw I love you and I will be waiting to eat that garden tomato with you like we used to do, when we meet again one day. Rachel Kristen xoxoxo
