Dear John and Carol:
Jack served aboard the same ship I did in the South Pacific, the U.S.S. Peter H. Burnett,IX 104! He has been closer than a brother since I reconnected with him through our ship's crew reunions back in 1994, and our many email and telephone contacts!
My email is bare! I miss our daily contact and his sense of humor!
Knowing Jack, and and now his passings, brings one to acknowledge our mortality and the tenuous grip we have on life!
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your families, daily!
He may be gone but he'll never be forgotten!
I am fortunate in having had him for a friend and shipmate!
May the Good God bless you all, good, and cause his face to shine upon you and bring you peace!
Sincerely,
Del

Mr. Berkenbaugh
This is Matt Snyder, dad wanted me to email you and offer his condolences to you and your family for your loss, and I do as well. Right now dad is not feeling well. He has the flue, I think. Been this way for about week and half. Dad said to say to the family, that He and mother has the greatest respect for your mother and dad and that he feels the loss deeply. Dads intention is to call you in the next week

Dearest Carol and John & families .... There are pairs of things that simply go together ... salt and pepper, peanut butter and jelly ... but one pair that stands out in my memories, are "Jack and Ruth". Knowing they are reunited lifts my spirit, but because we're human, we grieve because they're not with us anymore. I have more memories of Jack than I can count in this small space ... but they will remain in my heart until I see him again in person. Please know you have my love and my prayers and my unconditional love. I am with you all in spirit.

Today we get to celebrate the amazing person Uncle Berk was and always will be. I will always remember what a jokster he was. I didn't get to spend much time with him but when I did it was always a fun time. He will always have a special place in my heart. Love you!

I was saddened to hear of Uncle Berk's passing. I do wish I could be there for the funeral. I have more memories of him than any other uncle and I loved him dearly. My prayers and thoughts are with the other family members at this time. Though I didn't see him very often he was still very dear to me.
