My grandfather was a great man. I have many early memories of being at his home in Hurricane. Such as falling in the creek and painting the back of the house in mud. Or playing in the pool or play with the pool table. So many other little things come to mind, but most of all Papaw was unlike many other people I have come across in my 28 years. His sense of humor was so unique and I have to say his ability to be up so early in the morning is something I dont think I could ever get used to. Knowing what he did for our country brings a great sense of pride. I wish he would have been able to come to my wedding several year ago, but I know he was wishing he could. Now I have memories of a grandfather that will never expire. He will be missed and I do wish I could have been at the service to pay my respects, but I know he knows just how I feel. Farewell Papaw.

I would like to share with everyone a memory of my dad. There are so many to choose from but I will pick the recent. On a trip in may, my sister Kim, my granddaughter Emily, and myself made a trip to see dad. After divining from Virginia Beach arriving late in the evening the very next day his great granddaughter Emily awoke as daylight broke and we walked into the kitchen and when dad awoke he was very much surprised to see us awake before him. Then Emily asked him what is wrong with your roosters I think they are broken they are not cock-a-doodle-doing, I think you need to buy a new one that works. I think we need to go feed your animals, they must be hungry. And the love and the pride that shined in his eyes as they walked hand and hand will forever be in my memory. So I will not say goodbye I will say till we meet again in that special place that everyone comes to know as haven. I also wanted to say that I have so much respect and pride for my father for all that he has done for his country and fellow man, and I am sure not to meet the likes of another man of his greatness in my lifetime. I love you dad! And so in the UDT saying WHOOYA (sorry if that is not spelled correct) Your daughter Petra.

My deepest condolences to the Kinnard family. I got to know Mr. Kinnard through business when I was a very young man and he immediately earned my respect by the way he treated me and others.
He was a salesman but he would never pretend to be anything that he wasn't just to try an make a sale. Later, when I learned of his military heroism, my respect and admiration only grew. I'm proud to say that I knew someone like Mr. Kinnard and his passing is a loss the entire country. They don't make many like Don Kinnard.

To Donel and Tammy, Mike and Lina and children. Our deepest condolences on the loss of your father and grandfather. He lived his life with Honor, Bravery, and Selflessness. Don knew something so many today do not, the true meaning of being an American. He spent his whole life serving others, at times with great personal sacrifice to himself. There is no higher caliber of man. It was such a great honor to have known him. Take pride in knowing that you are descended from greatness and comfort in knowing that so many lives were touched by this true American Patriot.

I would like to send my condolences to Becky, Mike, Jaye and all the family. I have had the pleasure of getting to know Papaw over the last two years and I will really miss him. As I reflect back it saddens me that we will never pull up to the house and see him out chopping wood or with the animals or waving bye to us as we pull away. I wish my daughter, Avery, could have grown up with the farm and papaw being part of her life the way he was her mother, Jaye. He was always so happy to see them. It always made him smile to know they were coming to visit every Sunday and an important part of his life. It was a joy to watch him pull Aves in the car and feed her ice cream. These are memories I will never forget. I will make sure Avery knows how much he loved her and who he was. He was always very kind to me and made me feel more than welcome in his home. The fact that he was a "Great American Hero" makes knowing him all the more special. After years of service and hard work may you rest in eternal peace in heaven. God Bless you.

So very sorry to hear of your loss, I served with HMCS Kinnard in Vietnam when I was a Navy Corpsman (HM2) serving with the VN Navy Advisory Group, DaNang, Hoi An Quang Nghi Province. We went on medical missions (MEDCAPS) together with other team members from DaNang's Frogsville. HMCS Kinnard always had something to lift our spirits, even though some of the things we had to do were difficult and always hard to get to. He was a blessing always and his team members always provided wonderful support. May the Lord comfort you in your loss.

Please accept my deep and sincere respects and condolences on the passing of your family member, Doc Kinnard. It was my great honor to have served with him in UDT 12 in 1969 on the deployment during which he earned his Navy Cross. I was not actually with Doc in LT Chris Kirkland's detachment but I knew him well, and I remember the delay in the approval of his extremely well deserved Navy Cross, due to his status as a Hospital Corpsman. He was a true hero among the Teams, and that is no small thing.
God bless your family in this time of mourning.

DEATH
Then Almitra spoke, saying, "We would ask now of Death."
And he said:
You would know the secret of death.
But how shall you find it unless you seek it in the heart of life?
The owl whose night-bound eyes are blind unto the day cannot unveil the mystery of light.
If you would indeed behold the spirit of death, open your heart wide unto the body of life.
For life and death are one, even as the river and the sea are one.
In the depth of your hopes and desires lies your silent knowledge of the beyond;
And like seeds dreaming beneath the snow your heart dreams of spring.
Trust the dreams, for in them is hidden the gate to eternity.
Your fear of death is but the trembling of the shepherd when he stands before the king whose hand is to be laid upon him in honor.
Is the sheered not joyful beneath his trembling, that he shall wear the mark of the king?
Yet is he not more mindful of his trembling?
For what is it to die but to stand naked in the wind and to melt into the sun?
And what is to cease breathing, but to free the breath from its restless tides, that it may rise and expand and seek God unencumbered?
Only when you drink form the river of silence shall you indeed sing.
And when you have reached the mountain top, then you shall begin to climb.
And when the earth shall claim your limbs, then shall you truly dance.

Much can be said about Donel Kinnard the warrior. And much can be said
of Donel Kinnard the farmer. And much can be said of Donel Kinnard's
commitment to the American Veterans. We would like to share what we know
and will miss of Donel Kinnard the father.
Kim will miss her dad's smile, the twinkle in his eye when biting into a
good piece of licorice and his knack for finding a good bargain.
Ted will miss visiting with his father-in-law, helping around his farm
and enjoying a dish of cornbread and buttermilk with him.
Dad, we both love you and will miss you very much. You have moved on to a
