Donald  Earl OwensDONALD EARL OWENS, 80, of Barboursville, W.Va., husband of Joyce Brown Owens, passed away June 21, 2009, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House. He was born on July 30, 1928, in Lavalette, W.Va., a son of the late Maxwell N. and Myrtle Mullins Owens. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James S. Owens and a sister, Sylvia Marie Mallory. Other survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Andrew Hamsher; grandson Chris Hutchison and his wife Jennifer; granddaughters Heather Hodges and her husband Eric, and Tiffany Lewis; nieces Frances Robertson, Charlene Ginackos and Carrol Mallory; two brothers-in-law, George and James Brown; nine great-grandchildren, Mallory, Trevor, Hailey, Clara and Thomas Hutchison, Hillary and Sam Hodges, and Brooklyn and Skylor Lewis. Don was retired from Union Carbide, South Charleston, W.Va., and served four terms as Mayor of the City of Barboursville, former member of the Barboursville Volunteer Fire Department, and the Barboursville Lions Club. He was a Distinguished West Virginian and a Kentucky Colonel. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, June 25, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, by Rev. Judy Fisher. Burial will be in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House, 3100 Staunton Rd., Huntington, WV, 25702.
