Elma Kathleen "Katy" Frye Click for Condolences      Printable Version
1923 - 2009

Elma Kathleen

Elma Kathleen Katy Frye, 86, of Salt Rock WV left us on November 7, 2009 to be with our Lord. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 11, 2009, at Salt Rock United Methodist Church. The Reverend C.G. McComas will preside. Burial will be in Frye-Jordan Cemetery at Roach, WV. She was born on January 14, 1923, the youngest child of the late Joseph and Urcie Morrison Dick. One of four children, Katy grew up during the depression and served in the Womens Army Air Corp during WWII. She was a Christian who lived justly, loved tenderly, and walked humbly with her God. She believed in the predominance of good and found goodness in everyone she met. She was a teacher with a passion for helping children learn. She was a woman with great love in her heart for her family and friends. And she was happiest with a purring cat on her lap on a warm sunny day. Her husband, Robert Frye; her brothers, Ralph and Russell Dick; and her daughter-in-law Alyse Neundorf, preceded her in death. Surviving members of her family include her sister Alma Childers of Salt Rock, her son Ken Neundorf of Albuquerque, NM; her son and daughter-in-law Tim and Carolyn Frye of Charleston; her granddaughter Tanda Neundorf and her husband Les Chard of San Francisco; two grandsons, Joe Neundorf of Albuquerque and Trevor Frye of Charleston; her brother-in-law Sherman and wife, Winnie Frye of Barboursville; and many wonderful nieces, nephews, and their families. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, November 10, 2009 at Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville and 12:00 Noon Wednesday at the Church. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.timeformemory.com/wallace. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests everyone do a good deed for someone over the next few days in honor of Katy and not tell anyone about it. She would like that.

Timmy: I am so sorry about your mom. She was a great lady and never grew tired of all of us playing in the fields when we were growing up. Sorry I couldn't be there for you at the visitation but we lost mom about 3 weeks ago and it was just too hard to go. I know you will understand. God Bless you and and family. You are in my prayers. It will be hard but God will help you through it. Love you, my friend. Connie

I am very sorry to hear about your mother. I really enjoyed your mother both as a great teacher and a great neighbor. We lost our mother last night (Rosie Scarberry) and I know how hard it is to give them up. My prayers are with both of you, Timmy and Kenny.

Thank you, Katy Frye, for a life so well-lived. The Bible says, "to be absent from the body, is to be present with the Lord", and you are certainly in a wonderful place right now. I would also like to thank you for your service to America, in the Women's Army Air Corps. May God give an extra measure of peace and comfort to your family during the days ahead. Buddy Palla

I am heart broke to here of Mrs. Frye's death. She was one of the most wonderful teacher's I had at Salt Rock Elem. I had Mrs. Frye for my 1st grade teacher and always remembered her as putting on her lipstick and then blotting it with a tissue. I loved her so much. Mrs. Frye will be surely missed. I am praying for your family for the lose of a WONDERFUL person. May god be with you at this time of need.
