Myrtle and Family,
I was deeply saddened to hear of Pete's passing. I have many fond memories of he and I "meeting at the fence" of our properties when we were both outside working or just killing time talking. You were both wonderful neighbors to me for 4 years.
As a side note, Gretchen and I just got married and I am moving back from Texas to Hurricane, WV sometime this summer. I will stop by to say hello soon.

The last time I remember seeing you, you went by "Penny" and sold hotdogs at the Logan Country Club!
When Pete told us he was moving to Chapmanville from Mc Connell, I told him that there was this really cute/nice girl named Myrtle Workman. He laughed at the name Myrtle and well...... the rest is history.
I was getting a hair cut about two years ago in B'ville and this soft voice sais, "Is your name Bill Long?" I said "Yes, what's your name?" When he answered I jumped straight out of the barber chair and hugged Pete.
Sorry I did not learn of your loss until after the services. Pete was a special special person and I learned this from our 9th grade relationship.
We went out for football together when 9th grade classes started and the coach only had one pair of 8 1/2 shoes. He gave them to Pete and told me to try out next year.......then Pete broke his leg or something!
Even though I am rambling with these old stories, I am so sorry that Pete has moved on without us.

Seems anytime we were troubled, Uncle Pete was there. When something bothered us, we wanted to talk to Pete... I know everyone in my family, felt a soothing comfort from Pete! James "Pete" Neil, 66, of Barboursville, WV, formerly of Chapmanville, WV departed this life on Saturday, January 30, 2010 at St. Mary's Hospital. He was born September 11, 1943 in Chapmanville, a son of the late Jesse O. Neil and Ruth (Craddock) Neil of Chapmanville. Pete was a retired postal employee and a loyal member of the Steele Memorial United Methodist Church of Barboursville and choir. He served on several committees and was a trustee over the years. He was a graduate of Chapmanville High School, where he played sports and was inducted in the Chapmanville Hall of Fame. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Myrtle A.(Workman) Neil of Barboursville; two sons, Gregory T. Neil (Connie) and Steven Ray Neil (Cindy) of Barboursville; one daughter, Heather S. (Neil) Carter (Steve) of Greenup, KY; two brothers, Wade Neil (Judy) of Skaitook, OK and Gary David Neil (Cathy) of Chapmanville, WV. He has six grandchildren whom he was very proud of, Steven "Ray" Neil Jr., Gregory Chase Neil, his little princess, Nicolette Shae Neil, Hunter Blake Neil, Zane Michael Carter, and Zander Neil Carter; "adopted sisters" Glenna Jones and Gail Bledsoe, and special cousin, Doug Neil, and a host of family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Ott Workman, Larry Glenn Workman, Gary Neil, Wade Neil, Donald Workman, Steve Carter, Rick Fown,Jack Perkins, Wendall Childers, and John Call. He was a devoted Christian, and sportsman. He loved to fish and play golf with his buddies. He was well liked in the community and will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am Wednesday at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, by Rev.Dr.John Sauvage and Rev. Ralph Sager. Memorial contributions may be made to Steele Memorial United Methodist Church Building Fund, Box 346, Barboursville, WV, 25504.
