Caleb Hollis Blankenship Click for Condolences      Printable Version
1934 - 2010

Caleb Hollis BlankenshipCaleb Hollis Fidget Blankenship, 76, left the bonds of earth unexpectedly on Monday, June 28, 2010. He is present with the Lord following a tragic accident. He leaves behind his devoted wife, Marjorie Johnson Blankenship whom he loved for over 60 years. Together they raised four children, Bill Blankenship and his wife Angie, Samantha Lusher, Theresa Rufus and her husband Robert, and James Hollis Blankenship, who preceded him in death. He was the proud grandfather of eight grandchildren, two great-grandsons and three step-grandchildren. He thought all his grandchildren were Gods direct gifts and that his responsibility was to give them everything they needed. Granddaddy will always be with Jason Lusher and his wife Linda; Laura Henderson and her husband Patrick; Jennifer Lusher and Anthony Conte; Ryan Blankenship and Helen Estes; Mason and Shelby Blankenship; Nathaniel and Robert Rufus; Evan Harbour, Ethan, Will and Ciara Henderson, and Bayleigh Foxwell. Hollis was born to the late Stanley and Goldie Blankenship on May 11, 1934. He was always close to his parents, never living more than a few miles from his family home. He was a mainstay for his brothers and sisters, Sharon Hayes and her husband, Gerald, Jeanette Wiley and Eddie Blankenship and his wife, Susie. He was preceded in death by brothers, Wetzel and Douglas Blankenship and sisters, Clemma McCallister and Leona Dyken. He was a dedicated elder and charter member of Livingstone Baptist Church, Barboursville. One needed only to observe his life a short while to understand he was a man of deep faith and Christian character. His love of home, family and friends was never in doubt by anyone whose life was touched by him. Hollis was often called Fidget or Cricket by his friends and co-workers. He had a special love for operating equipment and molding Gods earth and crafting the unexpected for what most see as usual and never considered possible. This was, in part, what made him such an interesting character. He retired in 1995 from International Union of Operating Engineers. Not one to be idle, he soon began a second career as Superintendent of Diamond Links Golf Course, in Russell, Ky. During the fourteen years he managed the course, he transformed a wilderness into a beautiful park that is enjoyed by hundreds each year. Fidget also leaves behind an untold number of friends. He will be fondly remembered for his faith, generosity, and integrity. Friends may call Thursday, July 1 starting at 6p.m. at Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville. Services will be Friday, July 2, 2010, at 1l a.m. at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, with Elder Bob Pattan officiating. Burial will follow at Swann Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to Gideons or Hospice.
