George B. RobertsonGeorge Robertson, age 89, of Milton, passed away October 30, 2010 surrounded by his wife of 67 years, Viola, and their four daughters. On September 17, 1921, he was born in Cabin Creek, West Virginia, to Henry and Maggie Robertson. After his fathers death in 1925, his mother moved George and his siblings to Milton, West Virginia where he remained, married, built a home, and raised his family. George graduated from Milton High School in 1940 and served in the United States Navy during World War II and received an honorable discharge in January 1946. After retiring from Union Carbide at age 62, he and Viola spent their winters near Ft. Myers, Florida for 27 years. They enjoyed the competition of fishing for Snook in the coastal waters near their winter home. During the summers, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends, tending to his yard and garden. He also loved watching baseball. George was an avid outdoorsman and hunted the woods and fished the streams of West Virginia. He also enjoyed many pleasurable trips traveling to Wyoming and Montana fishing for brown and rainbow trout. Another hobby included tying trout flies particularly, the Royal Coachman, Bi-Visible, and Adams. He is survived by his wife, Viola Smith Robertson; daughters, Sue Mullins and Larry of Perrysburg, Ohio, Annie Kerns of Urbana, Ohio, Kathy Boggs and David of Milton, West Virginia, and Gail Hutchinson and Harold (Bud) of Milton, West Virginia. Also surviving are grandchildren Michael Mullins, Mark Mullins, Amy Kerns Rutan, Lo Boggs Lambert, Andy Boggs, Cory Hutchinson, Joshua Hutchinson, and Emily Hutchinson Holbert, 15 great-grandchildren; and sister, Bertie Lee Quails of North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his brother Lonnie Robertson of Pikeville, Kentucky. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at Wallace Funeral Home, Milton. Burial will follow in Forest Memorial Park, Milton. Friends may visit from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at Wallace Funeral Home, Milton. Viola, you and your family have my deepest condolences and sympathy. George was a wonderful man who I admired and cherished as a time long friend. I'm sad at his passing, but very glad that you and his family was with him at the time of his passing. Again my sincere condolences.
