1936 - 2010
Phyllis Chapman Robinson, 83, of Hurricane, WV went to be with her beloved husband William O. "Bill" Robinson on Thursday, November 11, 2010 at Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston, West Virginia. Phyllis was born December 31, 1926, a daughter of the late James A. and Elizabeth Leake Chapman. She was an employee at the Hurricane Post Office for several years. Phyllis met and married Bill, who was well-known in the community as owner/publisher of P.C. Publishing Company - a company that printed the local newspapers known as The Putnam Post and The Putnam Democrat. A few years later, Phyllis and Bill acquired The Cabell Record, as well. Deciding to work full-time with her husband, Phyllis soon learned the ins and outs of the paper business. From inking the press to composing ads, Phyllis worked side-by-side with Bill until his death in the mid-90's. For many years after Bill's death, Phyllis continued to run the "Post" - making her home in the upstairs apartment of P.C. Publishing on Route 60, Culloden. Health issues began to bother Phyllis and she decided it was time for her "to put the paper to bed" for the last time. She sold the business in 2007 and looked forward to retirement. Soon, Phyllis moved to Montana Avenue, Hurricane, where she was next door neighbors with her brother Herman "Butch" Chapman. Butch provided much love, care and support for Phyllis as her health began to fail. Phyllis is survived by two sons - both of whom she loved with all of her heart -"Skip" Coiner of Culloden and Jimmy Coiner of Hurricane. Also surviving are her granddaughters April Lynn (Tom) Lafforthun, Elizabeth Ann (Jeremiah) Mussari and step-great-grandchildren Brandon and Kirsten Lafforthun all of Apex, NC, and also former daughter-in-law Phyllis Coiner of Culloden, Surviving, along with her brother "Butch", are sisters Frances (T.A.) Fallecker of St. Albans and Judy Latham of Georgia. T.A., her daughter Sue Childers, and Daisy (who Phyllis always said "doesn't know she's a dog"), provided much company, laughter, love, care and support to Phyllis over the years. Phyllis is also survived by several nieces and nephews, along with "special" neighbor and caregiver Linda (and her husband, Charles) Plumley. Also left to mourn her passing, are members of her "Putnam Post" family. Visitation will be held Sunday, November 14, 2010 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Wallace Funeral Home, Milton, WV. Graveside services will be held Monday, November 15 at 2:00 p.m. at White Chapel Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Barboursville. You may send condolences at www.timeformemory.com/wallace. The family would like to give a special thanks to the Hubbard House for their loving care. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hubbard Hospice House.
