Mary Elizabeth Clay, 82, of Barboursville, W.Va., passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, November 21, 2010, at the Emogene Doline Jones Hospice House after a courageous battle with cancer. Mary was born on March 26, 1928, in Kanawha County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Elizabeth and Osbourne McDougal. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Arthur A. Clay, one sister, Helen Lambert, and step-son, Eric Clay. Mary is survived by her loving daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Larry Dillon of Lesage, W.Va., her devoted son, Michael A. Clay at home, and two wonderful grandsons, Nick and Nathan Adkins of Barboursville, W.Va. She is also survived by two loving sisters, Margaret Moore and Frances Cadle, one brother, Darrell McDougal, and many nieces and nephews. Mary was the heart and soul of her family. She was a loving wife and soulmate to Clay for 55 years, mother, grandmother, sister, babysitter, chef, traveling companion and best friend. In her working career, Mary was a cook for the Cabell County Schools and the former Baileys cafeteria of Huntington, W.Va. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday, November 24, 2010, at Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, W.Va., by Rev. Ron Burnsworth. Entombment will follow in Ridgelawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. Family and friends may call from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday at Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville. The family would like to sincerely thank her three precious caregivers: Linda Huff, Julie Vance, and Ruth Henderson; the wonderful hospice staff, Ginger Nichols, and her nurse, Lois Norris, for all of their loving care, friendship, and support.
