Dayna Kathleen Carter, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully at the age of 56 on the morning of December 2, 2023 with her husband, Patrick, by her side. Dayna was born on October 9, 1967 in St. Petersburg, Florida. In her middle school years, she moved to West Virginia with her family where she spent her adolescence skiing competitively alongside her brother, David Castle, and where she remained to raise her own family.
She always had a passion for helping others, working at Cabell Huntington Hospital, Habitat for Humanity of the Tri-State, and the Cabell-Huntington Health Department throughout her life. Dayna made lifelong friends everywhere she went, was always dressed to the nines, and had a kind word for everyone.
She is preceded in death by her eldest daughter Alexandria Massie, and her father James Castle. She is survived by her husband Patrick, her daughters Taylor and Caroline Massie, her mother Jean Castle, her brother David Castle, his wife Stacy Castle and her two children Annaliese and Emily Young, her stepchildren Heidi and Hogan Carter, her great-aunt Joan Steigerwalt, and her grandson James Bryant. Her light was effortlessly bright and will be sorely missed.
Visitation will be held at Wallace Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at Lewis Memorial Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m. with a gravesite service and reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, Dayna would like donations to be made to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital at cincinnatichildrens.org/giving to support children’s cancer research and to honor the fight that she and so many others have fought.
