What a wonderful, wonderful woman of faith! Jean was my first Sunday School teacher at Bates, and she always had something positive to say! What a shining example she has always been of the words of Proverbs 31:26: "She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue." During the years I was preparing to enter ministry, Jean always had a word of encouragement. I can hear her laughing outrageously in the circle of ladies who always sat in the back of the sanctuary before services: Hazel Bates, Esther Myers, and Mary Jo Stephens to name a few. Now she has joined the ladies of that cirecle in the light of heaven, and I am sure the laughter and joy continue as ever! My thoughts of Jean will always bring me joy. I pray for you, her family, and hope that all the many reasons you have to celebrate her life and her faith give you great comfort in this time of loss.
