1953 - 2024

Debra Debra “Debbie” Lou Hatfield, 71, of Salt Rock, WV, passed away on Friday, September 27, 2024, at St. Mary’s Medical Center. Debbie was born on May 7, 1953, to the late Carvel and Edith Childers. She was a devoted wife, mother, mammaw, sister, aunt, and friend to all.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Frankie Hatfield, two daughters, Holly Parsons (Greg) and Marcie Simms (Jason), and her pride and joy grandchildren, Christian Parsons, Sawyer Simms, and Scarlet Simms. She is also survived by her siblings Ann Baxter of Fairfax Station, VA, Ronald Childers (Sara) of Columbus, OH, and Linda Frazier (Glen) of Salt Rock, WV, brother and sisters-in-law Alan Hatfield, Gary Hatfield (Celia), Bev Hatfield, and her very special cousin Margaret Childers and many nieces and nephews who thought of her like a second mom and sister.

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her in-laws, Okey and Veda Hatfield; her sister-in-law, Charlotte Thompson; her brothers-in-law, Boyce Thompson and Mike Hatfield; and brothers Roger and Frank Kennedy.

Debbie devoted her life to doing for others. She was known for many things, but her kindness and work ethic made her stand out. Over the years, she has taken many kids to church, organized Christmas plays and Easter egg hunts, made hundreds of sugar cookies, coached softball, and cooked for anyone who walked through her door. She also had a sense of adventure and loved going to yard sales and finding good bargains. Her grandkids could talk her into anything, and she was always up for an adventure. She was the family chef, baker, counselor, teacher, seamstress, and party planner.

Debbie was a member of Madison United Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday School Teacher, Youth Leader, and alto for the church choir for over 50 years. She retired from Cabell County Schools after 30 years as a Teacher’s Aide, primarily at Pea Ridge Elementary, where she met her “Lunch Bunch.”

Visitation will be held at Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, WV, on Monday, September 30, 2024, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2024, at 3 p.m., with a one-hour visitation before the service at Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, with Pastor Eddie Parsons officiating. Burial will follow in Baylous Cemetery, Salt Rock, WV.

The family wishes to thank the nurses at St. Mary’s Neuro Intensive Care Unit for their exceptional care during a difficult time.
