
Linda Lee Sargent Cooke, 83, was welcomed into the arms of the Lord on May 13, 2025, at St. Mary’s Medical Center.
She was the second child born to Freeman W. “Pete” and Lola Esque Sargent on October 6, 1941. Linda married Charles B. Cooke on July 22, 1961, and they had two daughters, Delinda and Crystal, both of whom she loved dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents Freeman W. “Pete” and Lola Esque Sargent, older brother Bernard Norris, her maternal grandparents Cecil and Leona Stephens Esque, paternal grandparents Frank and Grace Harshbarger Sargent, father and mother-in-law, Elmer “Andy” and Lillian Turner Cooke, and brothers-in-law, David and Tim (Mary) Cooke.
Linda is survived by her husband of almost 64 years, Charles; daughters, Delinda and Crystal Cooke of Huntington and grand cats; brother Paul (Sandra) Sargent; nephews Eric Sargent (Robin Manconochie), Michael (Kelly) McGirr; niece Heather (Mike) Triplett; great-nephew Trey Berry; and great-nieces Corey Sargent and Cagney (Matthew) Thompson, Kelly Clark, who was like a second daughter to her and a host of other family and friends who loved her dearly.
She was an active member of Dillon Chapel United Methodist Church which she joined April of 1952 where she devoted her life to the Lord. Linda was also a member of the choir and an active member of the United Methodist Women where she enjoyed bonding and spending time with her friends. She was a 1960 graduate of Barboursville High School.
Linda was a bright light in the lives of those around her and will be missed by all that knew her. She always had a smile on her face, and always kind words.
Linda enjoyed spending time with her family and annual beach trips with her family and beach friends.
Donations may be made in her name to Dillon Chapel United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 20, 2025 at Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville with Rev. Alan Flaitz officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery, Huntington. Friends may visit from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 19, 2025 at Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville.
