Douglas "Jack" Jarrell Click for Condolences      Printable Version
1942 - 2025

Douglas Douglas “Jack” Jarrell, 83, of Barboursville, WV, passed away May 15, 2025 at Cabell Huntington Hospital surrounded by everyone he loved by his side.

Jack was born in Lundale, WV, and grew up on North Fork in Chapmanville until he joined the United States Air Force after his high school graduation in 1961. Jack retired from Elder-Beerman after 30+ years.

Jack served 42 months of military service in Barcelona, Spain. While serving, he worked as an underground operator. In his spare time, he played softball for his Air Force Unit. Upon returning to the United States he married his wife of 59 years, Catherine Sue.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Launa, one sister, Alma (Dale) Ingram; two brothers, Ernest (Katie), Larry (Brenda), grandparents, Ernest and Annie Jarrell and Dove and Annie Rice-Schultz.

He is survived by his wife Catherine “Sue”, two daughters, Carolyn Baker and Patricia (Mike) Baker; two granddaughters, Morgan (Austin) Gillispie and Mikayla Baker; two great-grandkids, Rhett and Emersyn Gillispie; one sister, Edna Mullins and Mark Rheinhardt and a host of -in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Anyone that knew Jack knew that he loved his family with his whole heart and especially his grandkids. Most conversations with Jack were centered around his grandkids and what they were doing in life.

Summertime was Jack’s favorite time of year. He loved sitting on his porch and working in his garden and flowers. He rarely missed a softball or soccer game played by his granddaughters.

This past fall he took the whole family to Mount Rushmore. Something he always dreamed of doing. Best trip and great memories that we will cherish forever.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 18, 2025 at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, with the funeral service beginning at 4 p.m.

Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at Hill Cemetery, Chapmanville.
