With great sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, and friend. Harrel Powell, 89, of Huntington, went to be with the Lord on November 3, 2025. Harrel was born on May 25, 1936 in Mayfield, KY, a son of the late Ray and Elsie Powell. Harrel was preceded in death by his wife, Avonelle, and his son, Gary. He was the devoted father of six children: Gary Powell, Jo Wooten (Claude), Mike Powell (Kathi), Denise Reynolds (Kenney), Kim Sanders (Jim), Amy Preston (Sam) and the proud grandfather of Adam Jones (Lauren), Joshua Jones (Gabby), Zach Preston (Kelsea), other grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Harrel was a man whose life was marked by faith, service, and love. He was a lifelong carpenter and proud member of Local 439. He served for many years in the Western Regional Jail Ministry, where he offered hope, encouragement, and the word of God to those who needed it most. Harrel was also a Gideon and took to heart the mission of spreading the gospel, distributing Bibles and sharing the love of Christ with others. Harrel was a devoted member of Bloomingdale Salem Baptist Church. His strong faith and love for the Lord were evident in everything he did, and he touched the lives of many through his service and prayers. Harrel enjoyed gardening always finding peace and joy in God’s creation. Funeral services will be held on November 7, 2025 at 1 p.m. at Wallace Funeral Home, by Pastor Chris Fulks, with visitation from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will be in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Bloomingdale Salem Baptist Church Building Fund. While we mourn the loss of such a wonderful man, we take comfort in knowing that he is now at peace, resting in the presence of his Savior. His legacy of love, faith, and service will continue to inspire us all. Rest in peace, Harrel. You have fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith. You will be dearly missed, but your memory will live on in our hearts forever. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.timeformemory.com/wallace.
