1943 - 2025

Samuel George HastingsSamuel George Hastings, 82, of Milton, WV, formerly of Belle, WV, passed away peacefully the morning of Sunday, December 14th, surrounded by generations of the family he cherished, following a decades-long battle with Parkinson's disease.

Sam was a devoted Christian and a member of the Oakwood Road Church of Christ.

Those who knew Sam would describe him as an honorable man of unwavering strength—in body, character, and spirit. He was always ready to help anyone in need and would give the shirt off his back to a stranger.

Born August 9, 1943, Sam was the son of the late John W. Hastings and Theda Lyons Hastings. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Richard and Michael Hastings, and one sister, MaryAnn Hastings.

Sam dedicated 25 years to Cabot Oil & Gas, where he worked as a well-tender. He loved walking the mountains and hills of West Virginia and treasured that chapter of his life.

Sam is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Catherine Hastings; his daughter and son-in-law, Carla and Steve Linville of Milton, WV (with whom he resided); son Chris and daughter-in-law Lynn Hastings of Winfield, WV; and daughter Mary and son-in-law Jeff Igo of Durham, NC.

He also leaves behind seven grandchildren: Daniel Linville of Milton, WV; Carlie Linville of Durham, NC; Chase Hastings of Myrtle Beach, SC; Samantha Hastings of Winfield, WV; Cameron Igo of Ripley, WV; and Emily and Kayla Igo-Kneasel of Durham, NC. Sam was especially proud of his great-grandson, Dallas Igo, who was his pride and joy.

He is further survived by siblings Johnny Hastings and wife Karen, and Nancy Lopez; along with a host of nieces and nephews.

The family extends heartfelt appreciation to Toni Colegrove and Delta Runyon for the compassionate care they provided to both Mom and Dad over the past year. We are also deeply grateful to the staff at Hospice of Huntington for their invaluable support during Dad's final days.

Friends will be received Saturday, December 21, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Wallace Funeral Home in Milton, with a service to follow at 5 p.m., officiated by his eldest grandson. Interment will be held privately with the family. In lieu of flowers the family request donations to the Parkinson’s Foundation or Hospice.
