I am truly sorry to hear of Jeff’s passing. It is hard to believe that Jeff and I have been friends for almost fifty years. I will always remember that some of us used to joke that if we were having a bad day we could call Jeff and by the time he would tell us all of his problems we would decide that we were not having such a bad day. I am sorry I will not be able to attend his service today but Jeanie and I would to offer are condolences to you all.

In 1974 as WV and the Nation struggled to work thru a major energy crises I hired Jeff to compile important information needed to upgrade State Energy Policy because Jeff showed the interest and intellect needed. His honest and thoughtful input on important Energy issues to State Leaders over the years since has been a Pleasure to observe. A record of remarkable public service that has aided State Leaders take action to protect State and National interests! Ron Pearson

Jeff had such a dry wit that when I first went to work for him, I was not sure if I could work with him. However, after getting to know him, he was a genuinely nice person and cared about others deeply. Sincere condolences to Nancy and family.

Jeff's passing leaves me with a heavy heart. My prayers are for Nancy and the family. He was my first boss whom I met in 1981 when he interviewed me for a position in WV government. When Jeff was always humble, he was quietly brilliant. He was a resource for information. I am a better person for having known Jeff. God bless him!

I have many fond memories of our friendship in Morgantown and later in Charleston. The annual Christmas Herholdt update brightened many holidays. Jeff’s wit and sense of humor will be missed. My deepest sympathies to Nancy and the family.

I met Jeff in early September 1967 on our first day of college at D&E in Elkins. We were roommates for our Sophomore through Senior years and ate dinner at the same table at our fraternity house every night. He was one of the most popular members because of his sense of humor and his friendly demeanor. More importantly however, he was the voice of reason and a peacemaker during those let’s say very interesting years.
