Kathy Sue Stevens, 69, of Ona, WV, went to join her Heavenly Father on January 21, 2026. Born March 15, 1956 in Portsmouth, OH, Kathy was the youngest child of Ernie and Dollie (Keller) Sexton of Minford, OH. After graduating in 1974 as the valedictorian of her senior class at Minford High School, she worked for several years at the Goodyear Atomic Energy Plant. She then moved to Huntington, WV, and spent the rest of her career at Region II Planning and Development.
She was a passionate crafter who loved scrapbooking, crochet, and painting. When not working on her crafts, she could be found in her garden, lovingly tending to the flowers she could grow like no one else. As a staunch defender of animals, she also enjoyed feeding the ducks at the Barboursville Park and the squirrels at Ritter Park, often in the company of her longtime companion, Izzy the chihuahua.
Above all, Kathy was a deeply devoted wife and a dedicated mother. All who met her, even briefly, were touched by her kindness, good humor, faith, and resilience. Her presence was a bright, guiding light in a world that is often dark and confusing, and while our lives here are darker for the loss, we are comforted by the knowledge that Heaven is a lot brighter now.
Kathy is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jerry Stevens of Huntington, WV; parents, Ernie and Dollie Sexton; brothers Ed, Harold, and Don Sexton; sisters Rosemary Marcom and Betty Reed; and her uncle and aunt, George and Elva Keller. She is survived by her son, Jason Stevens of Barboursville; her daughter, Amanda Stevens of Ona; and her close cousin, Linda Salyers of Woodstock, OH.
Per her wishes, no formal services are scheduled at this time. The family asks that anyone who wishes to honor her memory donate to their local animal shelter or wildlife rescue in her name.
Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, is assisting the family. Condolences, memories, and love may be expressed online at www.timeformemory.com/wallace.
