1952 - 2026
DON SMITH, 74, of Barboursville, passed peacefully on May 27, 2026, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House. Don was born Feb. 4, 1952, in Kanawha County, son of the late Herbert and Martha Smith. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Paul and Charlie Smith, of St. Albans, and sister Linda, of Charleston; father and mother-in-law Don and Zula Ellis, of Barboursville; and brother-in-law, Larry Ellis. Don's greatest enjoyment in life was time with his family and close friends, especially his loving wife, Trina, of 52 years, son Joshua, and special friends Connie Lyzenga and Nancy Starkey. He graduated from Huntington East High School, class of 1970. As a proud member of Lewis Memorial Baptist Church, he was a camera operator on the media team and attended the Men of Westridge bible study. Don was known for his unique sense of humor and compassion for anyone in need, especially animals. He loved music of all kinds - an obsession that he passed on to his son at an early age. His life made an indelible impact on so many people with whom he crossed paths - and now we are left with a lifetime of missing him for the privilege of loving him. Special thanks to Hospice of Huntington for providing care and comfort in the final weeks of his life. Friends may call on Wednesday, June 03, from 12 to 1 p.m. at Walllace Funeral Home in Barboursville, WV, followed by a celebration of life at 1 p.m. with Dr. David Lemming officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Little Victories Animal Rescue of Ona, WV, to honor Don's lifelong love of animals. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.timeformemory.com/wallace.

I am so sorry to hear of Don's passing before we could reconnect this summer. We had been best friends since 2nd grade and though we lost touch over the more recent years I still remember so many great times over the 40+yrs we maintained contact. He had a cheerful attitude for life and any time I spent with him always left me feeling better.
