 Phyllis Jeanne Argabrite, 79, of Barboursville, West Virginia, passed away peacefully at home on August 5, 2026.Born on June 7, 1947, in Lincoln County, WV, she was the daughter of the late Woodrow and Irene (Sowards) Johnson. Phyllis built a life marked by hard work, dedication, and quiet strength. She graduated from Marshall University, earning her degree while working full time and raising her family—a reflection of the determination that carried her through all she did. Phyllis served as Treasurer for Cabell and Wayne County Schools and was widely respected as a leader and mentor to many new treasurers across the state. She was also a former president and proud member of WVASBO, where she gave her time and care to the work she believed in. Phyllis approached life as a grand adventure. She loved the thrill of travel, the energy of live music, and the warmth of good company. She deeply loved her family and friends and lived her life to the fullest. She will be greatly missed by so many who loved her. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 48 years, Wendell "Sonny" Argabrite. She is survived by her daughter, Nanette Argabrite (Jack Waugh); her beloved grandchildren, Jackson and Jordan Queen; brothers, Kenny and Gracin "Bob" Johnson (Pat Childers); best friend of over 40 years, Martha Martin; special friend, Kenny Ellsworth; and a host of cherished friends and family. Visitation will be held Sunday, August 9th, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wallace Funeral Home in Barboursville. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 10th at Spring Hill Cemetery. Dear Nanette and family, I am so sorry that Phyllis has passed away. Her obituary captured her so well-such a hard worker and dedicated professional and much respected actoss the state by her colleagues. She loved you dearly and was so proud of your accomplishments.
