It is with immeasurable sadness that we announce the passing of WALLACE WENDELL ADKINS, 69, of Barboursville, WV, in the early morning hours of August 21, 2026. Wendell was born July 11, 1957 in Huntington, WV to Wallace Golden Adkins and Ruth Evelyn (Jenkins) Adkins who preceded him in death, as well as his oldest sister Sandra (Adkins) Dyke-Baumberger. Wendell proudly ran a successful security business, A1 Security, for more than 20 years and employed many people. A retired captain of Barboursville Police Department, loving husband, father, and grandfather, he is survived by his wife of 43 years, Donna (Wright) Adkins, his first daughter, Deborah Terry, granddaughter, Willow, his second daughter, Sarah Cremeans, and granddaughter, Norah, one son-in-law, Austin Cremeans, his sister Terri Weber and family, and many nieces, nephews, and great- nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind very special and beloved friend, Debbie Young, who is just as much a part of the family.
Wendell was a mentor, teacher, and guiding friend to so many and a man of great integrity with a public service resume too large to recount that is a true testament to his life-long dedication to protect, serve, and provide for others. Since first learning of his passing, many have reached out not only to express their condolences but to share their stories, experiences with, and appreciation for Wendell. Many said they looked up to him. Many called him a mentor. Others said he was a father-figure. Some even said he saved them, but almost every single one said he was a great friend. His family can think of no better tribute to a life so well-lived than knowing all the lives he touched so positively.
The only thing that meant more to him than his community was his family, which he protected fiercely. He was their provider, his daughters’ hero, and the best pappaw his granddaughters could ever ask for. His absence has left a void that cannot be filled. He was a pillar that cannot be replaced and a source of strength and love that we can only hope to one day match.
We invite those who wish to celebrate the life of Wendell to Wallace Funeral Home in Barboursville, WV. Viewing to be held Friday, August 28, 2026 from 6 to 8 pm. Funeral services to will be conducted Saturday, August 29, 2026 at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Ridgelawn Memorial Park, Huntington. We will never let his legacy be forgotten. “Your watch is over. We’ll take it from here.”
