Ulalla Fern Childers, 84 of Salt Rock passed away on Monday, August 19, 2024 at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Friday, August 23, 2024 at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, by Rev. John Gue and Rev. Alan Frye. Burial will be in Baylous Cemetery, Salt Rock. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years James David Childers, her son Mark Anthony Childers and granddaughter Sarah Nicole Faulkner. Fern, as she went by, was the daughter of the late Roma and Catherine Ross of Salt Rock and sisters Delma (Bill) Carter of Salt Rock and Sharon Rolfe of Salt Rock. Surviving are her sister, Arna Mae Walls (Val) of West Hamlin; her children, Charlotte Lynne Childers, Katrina Dawn Miller both of Barboursville and David Duane (Shannon) Childers of Salt Rock; her grandchildren, Christopher James Faulkner of Culloden, Samantha (Brett) Janney of Scott Depot, Ashley Dawn (Kevin) Betz of VA Beach, Tiffany (David) Odell of Orlando, FL, Leah Deschambault of Columbus, OH, Gabrielle Renae Childers (fiancé Drew Adkins) of Barboursville, Andrew Childers of Salt Rock, and Chasten Anthony Childers of Huntington; daughter-in-law, Lori Childers of Huntington; great-grandchildren, MacKenzie Faith Oakes and Cora Grace Odell (Tiffany), Isabella Nix Janney (Samantha), Jackson Betz (Ashley), and Izaya Malaki Smith (Leah). She lived her life loving everyone and everything, especially her cats, Petey, Prissy, Bubby and Tinkerbell. She worked so many jobs throughout her life, wife, gardener, cook, seamstress, doctor, lawyer, judge, disciplinarian, comforter, adviser, baker, teacher, banker and all of these jobs at the same time but most of all, the greatest mother to us. She was well known for her cooking and baking creations and always making enough to feed an army. Her pies and cakes were legendary and her chicken and dumplings were always the first finished off at homecoming and reunions.
