Roger William Smith, 78, of Sunset Beach, NC, formerly of Barboursville, WV, passed away on February 10, 2026. Born on September 7, 1947, Roger lived a full and meaningful life surrounded by the people and the activities he cherished most.
Roger retired from the United States Postal Service in Huntington, WV, where he dedicated many years of service with reliability, kindness, and a spirit of community. He was known for his warm personality and steady presence—qualities that helped him form lifelong friendships both at work and beyond.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Smith; his mother, Margaret Armstrong Baker; and his siblings Jim Smith, David Smith, and Jo Wolpert.
Roger is survived by his devoted wife, Brenda Smith; his son Troy Smith; his daughter Nicole (Jeff) Simpkins; and his beloved grandchildren Jackson Simpkins (partner Sophie Wheeler) and Payton Simpkins He is also survived by his brother Ted Baker; brother- and sister in law Ron and Terry Ferguson; sister in law Mary Thompson; and sister in law Kim Smith. He is fondly remembered by numerous nieces and nephews, along with many wonderful friends who enriched his life in countless ways.
A proud and active member of his community, Roger belonged to Minerva Lodge No. 13, the Barboursville American Legion, the Shriners, and the VFW. He was an avid golfer who found immense joy on the course, sharing laughter, competition, and camaraderie with good friends. His love for the game—and the relationships built around it—was among his greatest pleasures.
Roger will be remembered for his kind spirit, his loyalty, and the warmth he shared with everyone fortunate enough to know him His legacy lives on in the family he loved deeply and the lives he touched along the way.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, February 17, 2026 at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville. Burial will follow in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville.
