Our light, Donna Gail Legge Hardiman, 84, left peacefully for her heavenly home on April 7, 2026, surrounded by her family in the home that was her dream. She was born on March 9, 1942, to Joe and Violet Legge, one of nine children who were her best friends her whole life.
She graduated in 1960 from Barboursville High School, where she met her high school sweetheart, Philip. They married soon after and built a beautiful life together that spanned more than six decades. She worked as a telephone operator with Chesapeake & Potomac Telephone Co. before taking on her joy’s work as the loving, devoted mother of her three children: Ryan, Kelly, and Erin.
Donna was endlessly creative, known for her imagination, resourcefulness, and talent for crafting. Whether making a costume, an outfit, or a school project, she could bring any idea to life. She loved scrapbooking and even invented a scrapbooking tool that continues to be sold in craft stores today.
As a mother of three, grandmother of six, and great-grandmother of one, she was the heart of her family. She was an exceptional cook and a gracious hostess, creating a home where everyone wanted to gather for celebrations and fellowship. She had a knack for remembering every birthday, anniversary, and important date in her family’s lives. And she loved to sing, a passion she passed on to all three of her children.
She is survived by her husband, Philip; her children; six grandchildren; her great-granddaughter; a brother; and two sisters.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 9, 2026, at Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, by Dr. Rev. Timothy Waugh. Burial will be in Ridgelawn Memorial Park, Huntington. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.timeformemory.com/wallace.
