Portia Warner, 79, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2026, in Huntington, West Virginia, with the love of her life and husband of 42 years by her side.
She was preceded in death by her infant child; her parents, Dorellis Murphy and Raymond Murphy; her brother, Robert Murphy; her daughter-in-law, Kristie Warner.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 42 years, Wayne Warner; her children, Glen Conway and Mary Martin; her stepson, Michael Warner; her sister, Elizabeth Delameter; her sister-in-law, Brenda Warner; her brother-in-law, Gary Warner; eight grandchildren, Zachary Warner, Charlie Warner, Alec Warner, Jacob Warner, Brianne Short, Kate Conway, Lucas Holbrook, and Maggie Conway; and five great-grandchildren, who will forever cherish her memory.
Born and raised in Huntington, Portia devoted her life to serving others. She spent many years as a teacher, inspiring and encouraging thousands of students throughout her career. She was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church in Huntington for more than 50 years and, after making St. Augustine, Florida, her home, became a member of St. Augustine Shores United Methodist Church.
Following her retirement, Portia and her husband enjoyed many happy years together in St. Augustine. Even in retirement, her servant's heart remained evident as she volunteered in an after-school program, continuing to invest in the lives of children. Her kindness, generosity, and gentle spirit touched everyone who knew her.
Above all, Portia was a loving wife, devoted mother, proud grandmother, and cherished great-grandmother. Her greatest joy came from her family, and she will be remembered for her unwavering love, quiet strength, compassionate heart, and lifelong commitment to serving others.
A celebration of Portia's life will be held on Thursday, September 10, 2026 at First United Methodist Church in Huntington, West Virginia. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. with the service following at 2 p.m. with Rev. Scott Sears officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association, https://events.alz.org/fundraisers/marymartin/in-loving-memory-of-portia-warner or to another organization supporting children, education, or the ministries she held dear.
