Dorothy Mae Montgomery (Dot), 82, died Thursday, January 26, 2017 in Portsmouth, Ohio.

A graveside service will be held at Vernon Cemetery on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. Final arrangements are entrusted to Harrison Pyles Funeral Home of Wheelersburg, Ohio.

Dorothy was the third of nine daughters born to Brice and Susie Shepherd in Brush Creek, Ohio on April 09, 1934. Dorothy was a true daughter of the Buckeye State. She attended schools and lived her life in Southern Ohio. She has Kentucky roots and family ties in Southern Michigan and throughout the United States.

Dorothy was married to James Montgomery for over 58 years. They resided in Wheelersburg, Ohio. She was a devoted homemaker and caring mother to seven children. An impassioned Christian, Dorothy attended Faith Baptist Church for many years.

She is preceded in death by her husband James Montgomery; her grandson Jimmy Laack; her parents, Brice and Susie Shepherd; and two sisters Aileen and Cathleen Shepherd. Rejoice for Dorothy Mae has departed for Beulah Land!

Dorothy is survived by Four adoring sons, Jim Montgomery, Wheelersburg, OH; Robert Montgomery, Portsmouth, OH; Larry Montgomery Wheelersburg, OH; Danny Montgomery, Minford, OH; Three fiesty daughters, Carol Sue Montgomery, Wheelersburg, OH; Frances Hosey, Wheelersburg, OH; Loretta Montgomery, Lafayette, CO; Six loyal sisters, Pauline Drapeau, Charlotte Hall, MD; Sue Haywood, Albion, MI; Sharon Hagerman, Debary, FL; Angela Pewsey, Apopka, FL; Julia Williams, Phoenix, AZ; Cindy Brawner, Jackson, MI; and a passel of grandchildren, great grandchildren, a great-great grandson, cousins, nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the Southern Ohio Medical Center Hospice for their good care and support in Dot’s final days. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to the Southern Ohio Medical Center Hospice.
