Estel E. Smith
Franklin Furnace-Estel E. Smith, 89, of Franklin Furnace, Ohio passed away Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at SOMC Hospice in Portsmouth, Ohio. Estel was born October 30, 1927 in Portsmouth, Ohio to the late Frank and Margaret Kimble Smith. Estel was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army; retired as a Melter for Ironton Iron; he was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and the K of C. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Michael Smith; two brothers and a great grandson Dane Patrick McMackin. He is survived by his wife, Joan Hyland Smith whom he married June 29, 1953 in Wheelersburg, Ohio. He is also survived by three daughters, Patty (Stephen) Tennant, Judy (Russ) James and Brenda Smith; three grandchildren, Stephanie (Josh) McMackin, Brian (Alison) Tennant and Kyle Tennant and five great grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 12:00 pm Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at St. Peter in Chains Catholic Church in Wheelersburg with Fr. Stephen Smith officiating and interment in St. Peters Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00-8:00 pm Monday, June 26, 2017 at Harrison-Pyles Funeral Home in Wheelersburg, Ohio. Recital of Rosary will be 8:00 pm Monday at the funeral home.
