Geneva Darlene Gleim
Geneva Darlene Gleim, 81, of Wheelersburg died Friday, September 15, 2017, at Best Care Nursing Center. She was born December 28, 1935, in Wheelersburg to the late Elmer Eugene and Wilhelmena Sophia (Staker) Gleim.
Geneva was a 1953 graduate of Wheelersburg High School where she was the class valedictorian. After graduation, Geneva enrolled at Ohio University Portsmouth and pursued a degree in elementary education. In 1955 she was hired by Wheelersburg Schools as a second grade teacher. While teaching, Geneva continued her education at Ohio University Portsmouth and Athens campus and graduated in 1960 with a Bachelor’s Degree in education.
During her teaching career, Geneva also taught third grade, served on several county curriculum committees, and was the high school cheerleading sponsor. She retired from teaching in 1996 after 41 years with Wheelersburg Schools.
Geneva was a member of several organizations including the Alpha Beta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, an honorary for women educators, and served as the treasurer for 30 years. In addition, she was a member of the Scioto County Retired Teachers Association, Maloneton Homemakers, and Greenup County Quilt Guild.
Geneva was a devout member of St. John Lutheran Church in Powellsville where she served on the Altar Guild and Flower Committee for many years.
Her hobbies included quilting, sewing, gardening, traveling, and photography.
In addition to her parents, Geneva was preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law Maurita E. and Edwin Willis, and a great niece, Angela Marie Willis.
Survivors include two brothers, Loren E. (Shirley) Gleim and Galen H. (Carol) Gleim. Also surviving are 9 nieces and nephews, Ronald (Barb) Willis, Linda (Ralph) Ison, Kenneth Willis, Debra (Thomas) Tackett, Jeremy Willis, Barry Gleim, Russell (Pearlie) Gleim, Christina (Scott) May, and Julie Gleim. Geneva is also survived by 17 great nieces and nephews and 11 great great nieces and nephews who affectionately called her “GiGi.”

Funeral Services will be 11:00 am Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Powellsville with Pastor Carl Beck officiating and interment to follow in St. John’s Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives from 6:00-8:00 pm Monday, September 18, 2017 at Harrison-Pyles Funeral Home in Wheelersburg and one hour before the service on Tuesday at the church.
