Shirley “Mabel” Eskridge
Franklin Furnace-Shirley “Mabel” Eskridge, 80, of Franklin Furnace, passed away Monday, November 6, 2017 at SOMC ER in Portsmouth, Ohio. Mabel was born August 30, 1937 in Franklin Furnace to the late Sherman and Mae Ferguson Ison. Mabel was retired from Green Schools where she worked as a Custodian in the Primary building and she was a member of Jeannette’s Creek Christian Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Gregory James Eskridge; a brother, Homer Ison; two sisters, Ivory Bailey and Ruth Lavender and a son-in-law, Joseph, “Joe” Parker. She is survived by her husband, James Robert Eskridge, whom she married June 4, 1955 in Powellsville, Ohio; a son, Glenn (Donita) Eskridge; a daughter, Cynthia Mae Parker; two brothers, Ralph Ison and Alton Ison; a sister, Velva Johnson; two grandsons, Nicholas (Tomi) Eskridge and Luke Eskridge and two great granddaughters, Natalee and Arleeann Eskridge. The family extends special thanks to loving caregivers: Lora Brown, Monica Harlock, Teresa Bauer, Tonya Stapleton and SOMC Hospice and SOMC Homecare.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am Friday, November 10, 2017 at Harrison-Pyles Funeral Home in Wheelersburg with Pastor Denny Hankins and Pastor Ronnie Litz officiating with interment to follow in Junior Furnace Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives at the funeral home 5:00-8:00 pm Thursday, November 9, 2017 and one hour before the service on Friday.
