Polly Jane Willard
Wheelersburg-Polly Jane Willard, 82, of Wheelersburg, passed away, after an extended illness, Saturday, September 1, 2018 at SOMC Hospice in Portsmouth. Polly was born February 4, 1936 in Portsmouth to the late Lorin “Sam” Ashworth and Mildred Tipton Ashworth. Polly was a 1953 graduate of East High School where she was a Majorette in the band. She was a member of First Church of Christ where she retired as church secretary/office manager. She had also worked at the Portsmouth Bank and Martings. She was a long time member of the MOPS organization, (Mothers of Pirate Students) and she loved watching the game of golf on TV. In addition to her parents, Polly was preceded in death by a sister, Loreen Ramey and a grandson, Anthony Thomas DeCamp. Polly is survived by her husband of 62 years, Robert “Bob” Willard, whom she married May 12, 1956 in Sciotoville, Ohio. Also surviving is a son, Robert Earl (Erin) Willard, Jr.; two daughters, Valerie (Tom) DeCamp and Susan (Rodney) Smith; a brother, Jerry (Katrina) Ashworth; five grandchildren, Ashlie (Daniel) Bailey, Blake Smith, Andrew (Stephanie) DeCamp, Kailyn and Brooke Smith and a great granddaughter, Eleanor Rose Bailey.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am Thursday, September 6, 2018 at Harrison-Pyles Funeral Home in Wheelersburg with Sam Cooke and Rase Martin officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Burial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00-8:00 pm Wednesday, September 5, 2018 and one hour before the service on Thursday. The family has requested memorial contributions in Polly’s name be made to SOMC Hospice in Portsmouth or First Church of Christ Wheelersburg.
