
Richard Nelson Bussa, 91, of Wheelersburg, Ohio went home to be with his Heavenly Father,
Wednesday, May 6, 2026. He was born December 2, 1934 in Sciotoville, Ohio, the son of the
late Herbert Lee and Marie Carol Dever. He graduated from Portsmouth East High School. He
was Chairman of the Board for Desco Federal Credit Union for over 60 years, which he helped
establish in 1963. In 2006 he was named Volunteer of the Year by the Ohio Credit Union
League.. He was also was employed by Detroit Steel Mill as a blacksmith and served as a
United Steel worker. He served as Director of Employment and Training for Scioto County
Community Action and was passionate about adult workforce development. He also serviced
as a member and officer of the Shawnee Labor Council, Chamber of Commerce, and United
Way Committee. He married the love of his life, Emily Suzanne Kidwell Bussa on April 14,
1956, who preceded him in death November 3, 2011. He was a proud Korea Army Veteran, and
was a lifelong member of the Sciotoville Christian Church and the American Legion. He was a
community leader and avid supporter of Wheelersburg Pirates sports, where he was President
of the Wheelersburg Booster Club. Until age 88 and played in a golf league at Portsmouth Elks
Country Club. He lived everyday to the fullest. He made many memories with family, friends,
and coworkers throughout the years. Among his greatest joys in life was being a
grandfather/great grandfather a role he filled with unconditional love, wisdom, and laughter. He
is survived by his children, Dean Bussa (Kathy), Dianne Pfahl (Rick), and Michael Bussa
(Teresa); his Grandchildren , Erik Bussa, Erin Whitley (Josh), Amber Rush (Eric), Travis Carroll
(Amy) Jordan Pfahl (Kristina), and Brandon Pfahl (Rachel); Great Grandchildren, Annabelle and
Bennett Bussa, Judah, Samson, Ellianna, and Silas Whitley, Lincoln and Isla Rush, Wyatt
Pfahl, and Elliot Pfahl; two brothers Gary Bussa (Carol) and Duane Bussa (Eleanor), and one
sister preceded in death, Linda Jean Abbott (Chuck) and many nieces and nephews. Visitation
will be held Monday, May 11th, 2026 at Harrison-Pyle Funeral Home beginning at 10:30 am until
1 pm. Funeral services immediately following with Brian Enz officiating with interment at
Memorial Burial Park with military gravesite rites by James Dickey Post 23 American Legion
