Edward P. "Fish" Floyd Click for Condolences      Printable Version
1927 - 2006

On September 5, 2006 in the home of his son-in-law and daughter Benjamin and Angela Johnson of Suitland, Maryland, Edward Peter Floyd, Sr., went led home to GLORY. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Cora L. Floyd, Raymond B. Floyd-father, Marion (Banks-Floyd) Cuffy-mother and Josua Floyd-brother. Edward was born to Raymond B. and Marion (Banks) Floyd in Accomack County, Virginia. Edward's father passed when he was two years old and his mother went back home to Hampton to raise her then three children. Edward worked for Amory Seafood company as a packer in Hampton, VA when they transferred him to Huntington, WV to help build that local store. He later completed his working career at Standard Food Service. While in Huntington he met the love of his life, wife and lifetime partner of 50 years, Cora Lee Johnson and to this union was born six children. Being the charmer he was, he quickly set out to win her heart and when she asked who that man was that kept flirting with her, she was told "it's the fish-man Cora, it's the fish-man." Being the great fisherman, he won over Cora's heart and they were united on November 3, 1951. Edward surrendered his life to the Lord and learned that he could not live this life without the Lord. He let God be the Head of his life and began to live, move and have his being in Christ. He was a deacon at Calvary Baptist church and sang in the men's choir. As a husband, he shared his dreams and goals with Cora and together they made those dreams come true. Cora was a virtuous woman of God and she quickly set out to build up her husband, children, home and community. Edward established a pattern for his children to follow of, Ido - you watch, I do - you help, you do - I help, you do - I watch. Edward leaves a legacy of Excellency of Ministry through Godly Character, conduct, and commitment as he taught his family to build on their character, to establish their conduct and defend their commitment through stewardship and obedience. To continue this great lagacy he leaves: Jacqueline (Robert L.) Smith, Sr., of Detroit, MI, Marion K. (Frederick B.) Ward, of Huntington, WV, Edwina L. (James E.) Martin and Johnathan L. Floyd, of Kanas City, MO, Edward P. Floyd, Jr., of Huntington, WV, and Angela M. (Benjamin L.) Johnson of Suitland, MD. To continue the story and keep it alive he leaves his grandchildren: Robert L. (Beverly) Smith, Jr., Vincent E. (Katina) Smith, Sr., of East Point, MI, and Allen C. Smith, of Mountain, GA, Richard P.D. Jenkins, II of Huntington, WV, Marquita J. Floyd, of Virginia Beach, VA, Corleeta S. Johnson of South Point, Ohio, Michele, Mary and Robin Ward of Huntington, WV. To keep the legacy, story and celebration alive he leaves his great grand children: Vincent E. Smith, Jr. and Jalen W. Smith of East Point, MI, Kendrick J. Carlton of Stone Mountain, GA, Cerea Floyd, of Virginia Beach, VA, Christopher M. Ward and Teaja Jones of Huntington, WV. To cherish the memory, legacy and love; he leaves his aunt Florence Hawkins, his brothers and sisters Beatrice (Pat) Cornelius, Cinderella Turner, George Cuffy, Jr., Mary (Mark) Vic and Fred (Lena) Cuffy, Sr. He also leaves a host of in-laws, nephews, nieces, friends and Donna Johnson a special daughter to cherish the memory and a special granddaughter, Gwendolyn Brice.
